Laurens County
False Alarm Ordinance

BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of Laurens County, Georgia, as the
governing authority of said County as follows:

ALARM REQUIREMENTS.

a) It shall be unlawful for any person to install an alarm system in Laurens County without first obtaining
an installation permit from the 911 Center. I a person fails to obtain a permit prior to installation, the
alarm system shall be disconnected until the proper registration is obtained.

b) It shall be unlawful for any person to install an alarm system in Laurens County who does not possess the
proper State licenses.

c) All alarm systems shall be keyed to a private service which can notify the 911 Center when an alarm has
been activated. It shall be unlawful for any person to install an alarm system with an automatic calling
device keyed to the 911 Center.

d) Any person in violation of the above requirements shall have the alarm system disconnected and fined $100.

FALSE ALARMS:

Upon any false alarm being activated where public safety officers are dispatched to the premises, the resident
of the premises shall pay the following penalties:

1-3 Calls in 12 Month Period:          Written Warning

4-6 Calls in 12 Month Period:          $25 Per Event

7-9 Calls in 12 Month Period:          $50 Per Event

10 Calls in 12 Month Period:           $100 & Disconnection

APPEALS:

In the event a penalty is assessed as a result of a false alarm and the resident of the premises disagrees
with the false alarm classification, he or she may appeal the ruling to the public safety committee
by utilizing the following procedure:

     a) The person assessed a penalty shall request an appeal hearing in writing
         before the Public Safety Committee. The request shall state the reasons
         for the appeal.
     b) An appeal hearing will then be set up within thirty days of receipt of the
         request for appeal.
     c) The decision of the Public Safety Committee will be final.

EXCLUSIONS:

a) False alarms that are a result of an act of nature (power outage, storm etc.) will not count as a false
alarm against the residence or business.

b) False alarms which occur within (10) days of installation shall not be counted against the residence or business.

This ordinance is effective by a majority vote of the Laurens County Board of Commissioners this
____ day of March 2002.
